World Day Against Trafficking in Persons | “Trapped behind the scam”
July 30 marks the United Nations’ World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The theme for 2026, “Trapped Behind the Scam,” draws attention to the thousands of people being trafficked and exploited around the world by transnational organized crime groups and forced to take part in industrial-scale financial fraud operations. This form of trafficking in persons for forced criminality is growing rapidly. In response, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime calls on the international community to ensure effective protection for victims, strengthen cross-border judicial and law enforcement cooperation, step up efforts to dismantle organized criminal groups, and prevent people from being trafficked and exploited in fraud operations in the first place.
