The United States and Cambodia have recently carried out a series of joint operations, arresting several foreign nationals involved in related crimes and seizing more than 1 ton of precursor chemicals used in drug production and over 200 kilograms of drugs. The operations also uncovered a network in Cambodia suspected of using cryptocurrency to launder money for Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel.

Svay Rieng Police Arrest 4 Suspects in Drug-Related and Illegal Firearms Case
On August 17, police in Cambodia’s Svay Rieng Province cracked down on a drug-related and illegal firearms case at a rented room in Bavet Kandal Village, Bavet City, arresting 4 male suspects, including 3 Vietnamese nationals and 1 Chinese national. Officers seized approximately 0.885 kilograms of drugs, including ketamine, methamphetamine and ecstasy, as well as approximately 2.533 kilograms of unidentified substances, 1 handgun, 1 long gun and ammunition.

中国海关缉私部门近日与澳大利亚边境执法部门开展联合行动，侦破一起跨国烟草走私案，双方合计查获走私卷烟9000余万支。
今年以来，湛江海关缉私局在“利剑2026-2”专项行动中打掉非法卷烟走私团伙9个、查封仓储窝点9个，查扣卷烟3200余万支及电子烟1100余盒。调查发现，团伙将境外制造的假冒烟草制品夹藏于正规货物，经中国境内转运至澳大利亚。中国海关将线索通报澳大利亚边境执法署后，双方同步收网，澳方查获卷烟6000万支、烟叶60公斤。

China and Australia Bust Transnational Tobacco Smuggling Operation, Seize Over 90 Million Cigarettes
Chinese customs anti-smuggling authorities and the Australian Border Force have jointly dismantled a transnational tobacco-smuggling operation, seizing more than 90 million illicit cigarettes in total.
Under the "Sword 2026-2" campaign, the Zhanjiang Customs Anti-Smuggling Bureau dismantled 9 groups, sealed 9 storage sites, and seized over 32 million cigarettes and more than 1,100 boxes of e-cigarettes. Investigators found that counterfeit tobacco products made overseas had been concealed in legitimate cargo and transshipped through China to Australia. After China shared intelligence with the Australian Border Force, the two sides conducted coordinated enforcement. Australian authorities seized 60 million cigarettes and 60 kilograms of tobacco leaf.

Lao Police Arrest 7 Suspects in Raid on Online Gambling Operation in Vientiane
On August 19, a special task force under the Lao Ministry of Public Security carried out a raid in Nongduang Village, Sikhottabong District, Vientiane, targeting a cybercrime and online gambling operation based at the Royal Square office. Police arrested 7 Lao nationals, including 5 women.
Officers seized 62 computer monitors, 13 laptops, 41 mobile phones and 4 desktop computer towers. Preliminary investigations found that the 7 suspects had been employed since April 2026 to administer online gambling websites, with their work mainly involving responding to online messages.

缅甸军方在掸邦（南部）查获网络诈骗窝点 抓获23名中国籍人员
8月20日上午，缅甸军方在掸邦（南部）Kehsi镇区Wamphun村以北约9900米、Ponlon村东北约2900米处，抓获10名非法越境进入缅甸从事网络赌博活动的中国籍人员。
军方在现场查获2处临时住所、1处工棚、1处厨房棚、4套星链设备、26部手机、2台平板电脑、1台笔记本电脑、8个网络分线盒、12台Wi-Fi设备、4台刷卡设备、1台大型发电机、2台冰箱及相关设备。随后，军方在Ponlon村西北约3000米处再抓获6名中国籍嫌疑人，在Ponlon村以北约3900米处又抓获7人。至此，共抓获23名从事网络诈骗赌博的中国籍人员，上述人员此前曾长期利用该地区的临时搭建物从事相关违法活动。

Tatmadaw Columns Bust Online Scam Hub in Shan State (South), Arrest 23 Chinese Nationals
On the morning of August 20, 10 Chinese nationals who had illegally crossed the border into Myanmar to operate online gambling businesses were arrested at a location about 9,900 meters north of Wamphun village and 2,900 meters north-east of Ponlon village in Kehsi Township.
The troops seized 2 temporary shelters, 1 workshop shelter, 1 kitchen shelter, 4 Starlink sets, 26 mobile phones, 2 tablets, 1 laptop, 8 network extension boxes, 12 Wi-Fi devices, 4 POS terminals, 1 large generator, 2 refrigerators and related equipment.
The troops further arrested 6 Chinese suspects about 3,000 meters north-west of Ponlon village and 7 others about 3,900 meters north of Ponlon village. By then, a total of 23 Chinese nationals connected to online gambling had been arrested, who had been operating illegal activities from temporary structures in the area.

Anti-drug Operations in Thailand’s Kalasin Province, 4,302 Drug-related Suspects Arrested in Total
On August 20, Kalasin Province of Thailand released the results of anti-drug operations. From October 1, 2025 to August 19, 2026, 2,525 cases were filed and 4,302 drug-related suspects were arrested. Authorities seized 10,581,384 methamphetamine pills, 500 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 0.219 kilograms of ketamine. Drug-related assets worth approximately 55 million THB (approximately 1.67 million USD) were impounded.

Thai Police Bust Drug Network, Seize 221 Kilograms of Ketamine
On August 17, Thai police busted a drug trafficking network in Chachoengsao Province and arrested 7 suspects. Officers seized 221 kilograms of ketamine, 4,090 methamphetamine pills, as well as firearms, vehicles, mobile phones and cash. The seized items had a total estimated value of approximately 30 million THB (approximately 913,600 USD). Investigators found that the network used local residences and vehicles to conceal drugs.

Thai Police Bust Mule Account Scam Network, Arrest 6 Suspects
On August 17, police in Thailand's Kalasin Province arrested 6 suspects accused of providing mule accounts for a scam network. Officers seized bankbooks, bank cards, cash withdrawal records and multiple mobile phones. Investigators found that 1 suspect had been instructed by the scam network to recruit people to open bank accounts and withdraw illicit proceeds in return for a 10% commission. The suspect handled more than 3 million THB (approximately 91,400 USD) over about 3 months.

Thanh Hoa Police Dismantle Gang Impersonating Steel Firms in Online Fraud
On August 20, police in Thanh Hoa Province announced the dismantling of a gang that impersonated steel companies to commit online fraud, and initiated criminal proceedings against those involved. The gang sold construction steel at low prices on social media, issued forged invoices and demanded 50% advances before cutting contact, and traded bank accounts held in others' names to move the illicit funds.

In June, Ho Chi Minh City established a special task force to investigate a criminal gang organizing online gambling. The investigation revealed that the organization had a clear division of labor, with members separately handling operations, organization, and participation in betting. So far, police have seized 50 mobile phones, 3 laptops, and a large number of documents and electronic data related to gambling and betting activities. The total transaction value is preliminarily estimated to exceed 559 billion VND (approximately 21 million USD).

Malaysian Police Rescue 17 Jordanian Children Suspected of Being Victims of Human Trafficking
On August 19, Malaysian police conducted law enforcement operations in Bukit Bintang and Chow Kit areas of Kuala Lumpur, rescuing 17 Jordanian children suspected of being victims of human trafficking and being used for begging activities in Malaysia. The rescued children included 8 boys and 9 girls, aged between 3 months and 14 years old.
During the operation, police conducted 13 raids and arrested 15 suspects, including 7 men and 8 women aged between 21 and 49, all of whom were Jordanian nationals. Police seized a total of 14 mobile phones, 32 Jordanian passports, as well as multiple currencies with a total value of approximately 6,295 USD.
Preliminary investigations showed that members of the criminal gang had entered Malaysia legally with valid documents before taking the children to beg on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, with daily collections estimated at between 500 MYR and 1,000 MYR (approximately 124 USD and 247 USD).

South Korean Police Arrest 32 Suspects Over Alleged Distribution of Etomidate
Recently, South Korean police arrested 32 suspects for allegedly smuggling, selling or administering etomidate, with 13 of them placed under detention. The South Korean government classified the substance as a narcotic about 6 months ago.
South Korean police seized 2 liters of etomidate liquid involved in the case, with an estimated value of about 1.2 billion KRW (approximately 0.87 million USD), as well as 1,400 e-cigarette cartridges used to portion and distribute the liquid. Authorities also confiscated 120 million KRW (approximately 87,000 USD) in criminal proceeds.
Police have issued an Interpol Red Notice for a key suspect who allegedly orchestrated the related smuggling operations from overseas, and are pursuing another major suspect abroad through international cooperation channels.
